Wilson named in pay-to-play probe

June 1, 2012

ProgressNow New Mexico has uncovered documents showing that former-congresswoman and current US Senate candidate Heather Wilson has been named in a “pay-to-play” investigation being conducted by the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office.

You might remember in 2011, when news reports questioned the use of federal grants earmarked by Wilson to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department that ended up at a company owned by Wilson campaign donors.

Now, ProgressNow New Mexico has learned that New Mexico’s Attorney General has been conducting an investigation and both Heather Wilson and then-sheriff Darren White were called in for questioning.

Our investigation reveals that donors connected to that Albuquerque company and two other associated companies gave Wilson more than $20,000 in campaign contributions and received more than $6 million in federal and contacts and grants, like the one earmarked for BCSO.

But, we haven't forgotten the reasons voters said "NO" to Heather Wilson last time.  Headlines like "Congress' Most Corrupt Members" and "Scandal" appeared right alongside pictures of Wilson's arm wrapped around the likes of George W. Bush and Karl Rove.

Now that she wages another attempt to return to Congress, we've launched WilsonWatch to let the public find all of the news stories, interviews and campaign pieces of Wilson's past.  Judge for yourself.  Use the search box on the right to search for a term like "ethics" or "family values," or scroll through the blog and judge for yourself.

Heather Wilson's first TV ad forgets to mention her 10+ years in Washington, where she was voted to the Most Corrupt Member of Congress list and served on the board of a shadowy SuperPAC with fellow DC resident Karl Rove
